Somewhere overseas

Hello,

I am the neice of Alfred Horspole who served with the Lancashire Fusiliers during the second world war. He survived the war, but died in his late 30s. A couple of years ago a gentleman who served with him during the war tried to contact the family via an elderly relative, and unfortunately she lacked the foresight to take his name, address or telephone number. He had been trying to get in touch with members of the family to ask if someone might want to attend the annual reunions on my uncle's behalf. I have tried for some time to trace which regiment he was with (completely without success) and it is literally this weekend that I have been sent a postcard with details of his regiment, and his number. My mother is his only surviving sibling, and the whole family feel a sense of urgency to try and make contact with whoever it was who unsuccessfully tried to get in touch with us. We all feel that time is marching on, and as the gentleman must now be in his late 70s - we would like in some way to be able to let him know that we would like to contact him and perhaps be able to fulfil his request. My uncle was a tank driver, and I believe he served in other regiments than the Lancashire Fusiliers at a later date. I know he served at Dunkirk, and also in the desert campaign. His number was 3452550 He gave the title and address (on the postcard) as: Fus. A Horspole 3452550 H. Q. Company M.T. 1st/5th Lancashire Fusiliers B E F a name to the side of this address is T A Thorp The card indicates that it has been sent from "Somewhere in Bonny France" I would be so very grateful if you can help in any way. I have written to so many people during the course of the past couple of years, all without success and am so very hopeful that you will be able to help now that I have at least a little information.

Sincerely yours Jeannie Hardacre
